so she was pretty sure that every alarm clock had to be erased from existence. surely, that would prevent her from ever being woken up at six o'clock on a sunday again, right? okay, maybe alarm clocks should just be erased from kory's existence, for the rest of the time that she lived and breathed on the planet. she didn't know how many more times she could take being woken up at six in the morning. sure, the clock was set that early for when she needed to get up and get ready for school, but she was almost absolutely sure that she had set the clock three hours later, to wake her up at nine. some people would still consider that early, but korinne wasn't one that could sleep until noon; she felt like she was wasting her day away. usually, she would get up, shower, eat something for breakfast, and then plan out what she was going to do for that day. but no, the friggen' alarm clock had to wake her up at six o'clock in the friggen' morning and throw off her entire friggen' day. fan-friggen'-tastic. so now her morning was all off kilter. she had already showered, and it was only seven o'clock. as she entered her room, hair still in wet waves around her shoulders, kory pulled opened her closet, standing in front of it like she was deciding which door she was going to pick on some old-fashioned game show. it always took her forever to get ready, no matter where she was going, which was why she had gotten up at six on week days to get herself ready for school. after about fifteen minutes of careful deliberation, an outfit was chosen, and she was sure that she wasn't going to pull any of her last minute, 'oh, lemme just change my shirt' excuses. it was a habit of hers, she could go through three or four tops before even leaving the house. don't get me wrong, some days she just threw on sweats, a tank top and a hoodie before she was set to go, but most of her days called for careful outfit-picking.
what was she to do for the rest of the day? that's exactly what she asked herself. what the hell am i gonna do for the rest of the day?
she hadn't even gotten her pajamas off before she felt her stomach growl loudly. right, she had almost forgotten about breakfast. maybe her mom had left some pancakes or something on the table before she left for work; mrs. brockdale made amazing pancakes, and kory let her know that every chance she got. unfortunately, a venture downstairs into the kitchen revealed that there was nothing prepared to munch on, and thanks to that thought of pancakes, kory was really craving them. did they even have pancake mix in the house? cabinets; no, pantry; no, fridge; nothing. seriously? she sighed, shoulders sagging in defeat. she really wanted pancakes. out it is, then, kory murmured, grabbing her keys off the counter. she had the diner in mind, because she had recalled that they had some pretty good pancakes. her purse was picked up on the way to the door, and, hopping on one foot, she bumped into the wall getting her boots on. thankfully she didn't run into anything or fall getting into her small, sleek mazda3. the diner wasn't very far, so she would be able to make it there in no time.
growing up in kansas, korinne had grown accustomed to driving in the snow and rain, and general cold, but she had never really gotten used to parking in it. she was always afraid that she was going to hit another car, which would explain why she had her head sticking out the window as she pulled into the parking lot of the diner. there was only a car to the right of her, on her passenger side, but she still didn't want to take any chances. almost.. there. BAM! epic win, she grinned, closing her window, killing the engine and undoing her seatbelt. with possibly more enthusiasm than necessary, she entered the diner with a smile on her face, taking a seat at the counter. it was just her, no need for a table. it was a few minutes before a petite older waitress had asked her what she wanted. short stack of blueberry pancakes and a coffee, please. so she was getting her caffeine fix and satisfying her pancake craving. double whammy.
